The Salvage Yard - 6Siege Tabletop Game

Previously I’ve made it clear that I wanted someone else to make 6Siege when I complained about the problem of Kickstarter campaigns – and how they generally fail to create a game community with the one and done structure. And that’s not meant to be a commentary about the quality of the game, just the absence of retail copies which are important from a visibility standpoint.

The other important element that’s absent form (most) Kickstarter campaigns is incremental release of content. Instead these are always delivered as stretch goals – more minis, more cardboard, more…stuff dropped all at once for you to digest making it all the more nebulous. I also made a very clear note about not buying the game.

It may be time to review that position.

How my wife undoubtedly feels about my spending.

Steamforged Games has recently acquired the rights to 6Siege post-Mythic Games collapse, and whilst this doesn’t offer any relief to those who were ripped off by Mythic going under it does offer the game another chance. In addition to that (kind of) good news, the original designer is also working on new content for the game – including new operators and a new map. This also offers me the opportunity to just piss more money away on a game that nobody else plays!

But they should.

It’s a great game – and I would have unreservedly recommended it if it weren’t for Mythic Games. The times I have shown it off has usually resulted in people interested in the game with the unfortunate news of telling them to not buy it.

How in the ever-living hell are you meant to build a community for a game like that?

Now like always backing a game in any format – Kickstarter or Gamefound – always comes with risk. Though this does seem to be mitigated by the fact that this is largely a re-print of an already finished game (sans new content). So I will be keenly watching this project noting that it won’t ship until April 2026 – most likely since it needs to go back into production.

Stay salty!
